As an Indoor Environment Technician, you will be involved in a wide variety of projects with a focus on assisting our clients with managing hazardous materials at their facilities.

Your primary duties will include:

  • assessing buildings and structures for designated substances (asbestos, lead, mercury, silica) and other building-related hazardous materials (mould, PCBs, ODS)

  • collecting samples of building materials (i.e. asbestos, mould, lead, PCBs etc.) and submitting them for lab analysis

  • recording clear and organized field notes

  • preparing reports (compiling data, interpreting results, assessing risks and conveying findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner)

  • preparing scope of work documents, technical specifications and associated contract documents related to abatement projects

  • monitoring abatement projects (asbestos, mould, lead etc.)

  • undertaking air monitoring programs (asbestos, mould etc.)

  • drinking water sampling and testing for lead concentration

  • undertaking indoor air quality assessments

  • preparing proposals

Our ideal candidate possesses as many (if not all) of the following attributes:

  • diploma or degree in building sciences (i.e. Architectural Technician, Construction Engineering Technician or Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent). Ultimately, we’re looking for an individual with a strong understanding of building design and construction. 

  • professional designation such as a CET would be preferred but not mandatory.

  • experience collecting environmental data and samples would be preferred.

  • well versed in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.

  • strong communication skills (both written and verbal) are mandatory as the position involves interactions with clients, contractors and other stakeholders, as well as report writing

  • experience with database and CAD software would be an asset.

  • willingness to travel locally on a regular basis and occasionally longer distances within southern Ontario.

Please note that applicants must have a valid driver’s licence, provide their own vehicle and maintain adequate automobile insurance. Travel expenses will be reimbursed for work related travel.

Additionally, applicants may be required to pass a criminal background check for security clearance that may be required to gain access to certain client sites.
