Asbestos, Lead, Mould, Designated Substances/Hazardous Materials...what are these about and why should I care? (Complimentary Training)

OnPoint is offering a complimentary session to provide participants with an understanding of the regulations pertaining to the control of hazardous materials on projects and for their long term management at a facility.  The session is aimed at property managers, owners, project managers, engineers, architects, contractors and anyone else responsible for the health and safety of employees, workers and general building occupants.

 

The information session will provide participants with an understanding of the following:

 

  • What are hazardous materials, designated substances etc.?

  • Should I be concerned about these materials on a construction, renovation or demolition project?

  • Am I obligated to manage these materials at my facility?

  • What regulations drive these requirements?

  • What do I need to do to comply with the regulations?

 

The one-hour session can be held anytime during the day or as a lunch-and-learn gathering.

Asbestos Awareness Training (Advanced)

OnPoint Asbestos Awareness training was developed for persons responsible for the management of asbestos at their workplace as well as others that may encounter asbestos as part their regular work activities including contractors, consultants, engineers, maintenance workers, health & safety personnel, joint health and safety committee members or others who may have concerns over the presence of asbestos in their work or home environment. 

 

The training is intended to provide an overview on asbestos with a focus on how to manage it.  The course contents will generally address the following topics:

 

  • Background information on asbestos

  • Health effects of asbestos exposure

  • Where asbestos can be found in buildings and structures

  • Regulatory framework including requirements to assess, reassess and manage asbestos in the workplace

  • Duties, roles and responsibilities of owners, managers, workers, employees and contractors

  • What is an Asbestos Management Program

  • Managing asbestos in your facility

  • Dealing with an asbestos release incident

  • Personal Protective Equipment

  • Overview of Ontario Regulation 278/05 asbestos work classifications

  • Overview of Ontario Regulation 278/05 asbestos abatement measures and procedures

  • Sampling and testing building materials for asbestos

  • Interpreting an Asbestos Assessment Report

  • What is a “pre-construction” or “designated substance” assessment report or audit and when do I need one?

 

The training is approximately 4 hours in duration and can be modified to suit your specific needs.  A certificate card will be issued to each participant that completes the training module. Please contact OnPoint for pricing information and to schedule a training session.

Asbestos Awareness Training (Basic)

OnPoint’s Basic Asbestos Awareness training was developed to provide a general level of information on asbestos.  It is most suitable for persons that may have concerns over the presence of asbestos in either their home or workplace.  This level of understanding may be most suitable for general building occupants, homeowners etc.

The course contents will generally include the following topics:

·       Background information on asbestos

·       Health effects of asbestos exposure

·       Overview of applicable regulations

·       Where asbestos can be found in buildings and structures

·       Recognizing damaged and deteriorated asbestos-containing materials

·       Management of asbestos-containing materials
